From July 4 to August 2, 2024, the Beyond.Reality gallery in Berlin is presenting an exhibition of works by musician and Leica photographer Johannes Barthelmes.

Few photographers have succeeded in capturing the sound of the Cuban capital as masterfully and sensitively as Johannes Barthelmes. The jazz saxophonist and photographer has been traveling to Cuba regularly for years to make music and take photographs.

“I fell in love with the Cuban people – with their talent for improvising while living in extremely difficult economic circumstances in order to somehow survive, with their great musical talent and with their enormous zest for life,” says Barthelmes. This affection, warmth and empathy can also be felt in his pictures, which have already won several awards at the LFI.Gallery and are now also being shown in Berlin following presentations in Havana.

The vernissage will take place on July 4 at 5 p.m. in the Beyond.Reality Gallery at Schlüterstraße 70 in Berlin Charlottenburg. An artist talk with Johannes Barthelmes will also take place in the gallery on June 27 at 4 pm. A finissage on August 2 will conclude the presentation in Berlin.

Opening hours during the exhibition: Wednesday to Friday, 1-6 pm and by appointment.
